Easter weekend is right around the corner! If you’re ready to celebrate in Calgary, we have some fun suggestions for you. From where to shop for a family feast to fun activities to enjoy over the long weekend, here are our top tips for an epic Easter in the city.
Where to shop for your family feast
If you’re whipping up a celebratory meal for friends and/or family on the holiday weekend, you’ll want it to be special. Good food starts with great ingredients and you can stock up on them at The Calgary Farmers’ Market (510 77th Avenue SE). This year-round market is really a one-stop shop for everything you might want or need --- from excellent farm fresh produce to gourmet prepared foods and specialty ingredients! The market is open Thursday through Sunday, from 9am to 5pm, so plan your trip accordingly.
If you plan to imbibe, we recommend grabbing some vino at Metrovino Fine Wines -- an excellent independent wine shop in the Beltline area. You’ll really wow your guests with what you find here as most of their products aren't available elsewhere in the province, and many are entirely exclusive to Metrovino. If beer is more your speed, Calgary is home to some amazing craft breweries. We recommend award-winning Common Crown Brewery and The Establishment Brewing Co which won 2021 Canadian Brewery of the Year AND 2021 Alberta Brewery of the Year.
If you want to dig into something sweet, be sure to pick up some gourmet and stunning chocolate confections from The Chocolate Lab (last year they offered designer chocolate eggs inspired by Bob Ross paintings!) or a show stopping Chocolate Silk Nest Pie from Pie Junkie.
You might want to dress up your table for spring, so picking up a beautiful fresh floral arrangement is a good idea. We recommend paying a visit to top rated Flower House, Flower Chix or Northwest Florist.
Fun events and activities around town
A long weekend is the perfect opportunity to check out fun local events and establishments. On this particular weekend, we recommend leaving the everyday behind and checking out The Alice: An Immersive Cocktail Experience. It’s basically the tea party to end all tea parties and involves taking a 90 minute topsy-turvy journey through Wonderland. You’ll get to create two bespoke Wonderland cocktails, solve riddles and challenges, devour an “Eat Me” cookie, paint the roses red and more. Be sure to wear your best top hat.
This pandemic may have left you itching for a little travel and adventure. Lucky for you, you can take in the sights of the Sistine Chapel right in Calgary! Be sure to check out Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel The Exhibition while you can. It’s your opportunity to admire the greatest masterpieces of Michelangelo from a totally new perspective -- without the trip to Vatican City.
Sports fan? If a hockey game sounds like an amazing way to spend the evening, be sure to catch the Calgary Flames playing the Arizona Coyotes at 8pm on Saturday, April 16th.
We hope these tips help you enjoy an epic Easter weekend in Calgary!
